It has been three months now and I have certainly had enough of DIY, home improvements and anything that involves me picking up my tools.  I must be getting old :-(   While I was on the feeling old theme one thing that crossed my mind was what would happen to all my belongings and my boys if I was to suffer a near fatal injury or just become very ill? For this reason I thought I better look into getting some health insurance.

This is big big business and a complete mine field if you don’t know what you are looking for.  I have seen so many television adverts telling me that I don’t have to have a check-up or pay any upfront fees and all sorts of gimmicks to get my money but this really doesn’t help.  So, I setup up a meeting with my good friend Google and got to work looking for a bargain.  I don’t want to have to pay the earth for my health insurance but I do need it to cover everything that poses a danger to my day to day on goings as well as my general well being.

Who wants to be on the roof of their house, slide down from the tallest point ripping off a limb and tearing their testicular sack open on the way down on a rusty nail when you have no health insurance?  OK they might not pay out on the actual injury as it sounds a little farfetched but they should cover me if I develop some sort of nasty infection due the rusty nail.

I decided that the best place to start would be to read a few reviews on some 3rd party sites and try to find out who and what to avoid in health insurance.  I didn’t take any notice of the testimonials on some sites, for example: one read… “I went skiing with the family and on my return I developed pneumonia which put me out of work for 3 months. Thanks to Joe blogs health insurance I got a pay out of £1,000,000″.  WOW I thought what a load of lies.  See what I meant about being a mine field.

At this point I was going round and around in circles so I typed my way over to some health insurance comparison sites.  These sites generally give the best overview of who is offering the best health insurance and have reviews from customers rather than made up nonsense.  I reckon this is a few days work as I don’t want to sign up to something that won’t cover me.
