On Going Battle
Health Insurance
Apr 29th
Its been a lovely week and I have not touched any of my tools or anything DIY related for over 5 days now and finally I am getting to grips with my Health Insurance campaign.
I have spent far too many hours crawling through reviews, websites, reading the little snippets in back of news papers that offer too good to be true offers and then back on the net to check them out that I nearly threw my laptop out the window.
Health Insurance is big business and far too often there are companies that pop up every day and offer to cover “Everything” but do not be put off by this as there are just as many legitimate companies that offer realistic cover at competitive rates. My best advise is to take your time and shop around.
Boiler Breakdown
Mar 29th
Today was one of those days when I wished everyone and everything would just go away! I have recently been looking at sorting out my heating system and then suddenly I’m all over boiler breakdown sites looking for some help.
My own makeshift boiler that has given me years of faithful services has decided to give up the ghost and gone to copper heaven
. Shame it took me ages to get it working right. It wasn’t the best boiler in the world but it was one that I had built with much sweat and tears.
Anyway I am sure I can use some of the copper and other bits and peices for another one of my brain storm projects.
Hacing already spent far to long on the internet today looking for boiler breakdown cover I decided to give it rest and go for a walk around the forrest, the suns out today and I could so with some sun on my helmet.
Baby Names
Feb 16th
Hi Everyone! I didn’t tell anyone but I have been on holiday for the last two week so the blog has been a little neglected.
So here I am again, reading through a hundred or so emails. One is from an old friend up north asking me my advise on baby names. I haven’t heard from him in a while so it was nice to email hi back and see what he has been up to.
I hope he sees the importance of choosing his babies name, I cant stand it when these stupid celebs choose silly names like crouching tiger hidden dragon. Just be sensiable and chose a classic name like Peter, John, Mark, Luke will do, they are all saints and been have been around a while.
On the other hand you could choose a welsh name like “Teagan” which means “Good-looking/Beautiful” very nice name for a little girl.
Anyway I eamiled my mate back and just said that he should take his time and think carefully before rushing this important decision.
Corporate Events
Jan 8th
Although living on my own does have its advantages, it also has big disadvantages, for example, I don’t work, I am self sufficient in my own little world as far as food and living etc, so not having a job means I just don’t get out enough.
I was reading an article about corporate events and for a small time I wished I was stuck behind a desk tapping away on a keyword with a head set designed to be uncomfortable for its users, selling bed linen. Then I sobered up.
This corporate event business does look fun. I can’t believe the effort companies will put into making sure their employees have fun and learn to work as a team at the same time. When I was working, it was always alone for weeks on end, freezing my backside off in some foreign country.
Hell yeah I would of preferred climbing around tree tops or go-karting but it would of been all about the corporate quiz or game show, previous to my anti-social life style, friends and colleagues would often ask me trivial questions of which I was happy to answer. Not that I’m a know-it all J
VOIP phones – My New Found Hope
Jan 5th
Well what can I say about the festive break; I had a great Christmas dinner and was over the moon when I checked my post collection point to find a few prezzies from my boys. One parcel that really intrigued me was a pair of VOIP phones. At present I don’t use a phone for security reasons, so I did some reading on VOIP phones and I reckon I might get away with using them.
At first I was a little confused as to why there was a pair, then when I ripped into the box I found a note saying that I could have one as a spare just in case one got damaged or failed. Makes sense!
The idea that I will be able to talk to people excites me and I am hoping I can route my calls via the usual proxies that help to protect my identity and then I will be able to order my shopping on the phone instead of tapping keys all the time.
I had heard of VOIP before but never really looked into it. My setup is all in the development stage at the moment but in time I am confident that it can be done.
As far as the New Year, things are looking good and I am going to make a start on some improvement to my dwelling.
Educational Toys at there best!
Dec 14th
When they were young I always tried to send my three boys Educational Toys because I didn’t want them growing up like me and having to beat the hell out of Frenchmen and others alike.
Sometimes I managed to get it right, like sending Lego; they used to love this stuff. So did I.
Other times I completely missed the target and ended up buying a boring old chemistry set, one year the ex wife phones and told me how this particular chemistry resulted in half the house going missing due to an explosion from the front bedroom. Cost me fortune that year.
Lego on the other hand does not have the same dangers as mixed chemicals and powders; I remember getting told off when I couldn’t help it and opened one of the boxes to build it myself. I couldn’t help myself it was the massive castle I had brought with loads of Robin Hood style characters in the box.
I would say that this stuff has the perfect balance between Educational Toys and Fun Toys.
Toys are much better now than when I grew up! I had to be content with a piece of fruit and spending Christmas day being attacked by angry villagers from across the Valley.
